The movement to bridge the influence of sports with the fight against human trafficking continues, and on April 17th the significant others of three prominent New York athletes played a role.
Elaina Watley, Amber Sabathia, and Alexis Stoudemire (pictured left to right) hosted a “Ladies Night In” at the estate of Amber and husband CC Sabathia, New York Yankees pitcher. Complete with high-end vendors, cocktails, and of course, pajamas, the event attracted a network of women of influence to raise awareness and support for Not For Sale’s work.
“Alexis, Elaina and I all have our own charities of choice. However, when we began planning Ladies Night In, we wanted to bring awareness and support to a not-for-profit that will benefit women,” Amber said. “As strong, independent women, we wanted to pull together and support a great cause. For all women in the U.S., but also all over the world.”
Alexis is the wife of New York Knicks forward Amar’e Stoudemire, and Elaina is the fiance of New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz. CC and Amber are the newest addition to Team Not For Sale, a global collaboration of athletes committing their platform and influence to the fight against human trafficking.
“When my wife Amber and I learned that approximately 200,000 children in our country alone are trafficked for sex and that two main factors that lead to people being trafficked are poverty and lack of educational opportunities, we knew we had to get involved,” CC said.
Event sponsors included The Vanity Group, Empire CLS, D’USSE, and Chef J Maxwell, and vendors included D’Style Makeup, Kink Salon, Honesty Jewelry, Phil Luan Grath, Saks Fifth Avenue, GoldTinker, Treluxe.
