Creating history by delivering one bowl of soup at a time, NFS President David Batstone and NFS Netherlands Director Toos Heemskerk took to the streets in Amsterdam’s Red Light District earlier today. After months of preparation, the HOME program finally became a reality as the NFS team delivered soup to over 50 women working behind the windows.
On the menu for the launch day of Home were homemade nutritious soups, red Thai coconut curry and gourmet tomato basil. The soups were prepared by Chef Thomas of Soup en Zo and delivered by the NFS Amsterdam team.
One volunteer was surprised by the enthusiasm in which the women, many of whom openly admitted to being hungry and tired, received the soup. The first women to receive the free meal were from Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Romania.
Today’s delivery marks a major step forward in the historic launch of HOME, a NFS social venture providing specialty soup to women working in prostitution in Amsterdam’s red light district. The basis of HOME is to create a place that provides a safe environment, which will help these women lead a dignified future. The next step for the recipients is to participate in skills training in cooking and catering in order to provide new futures for survivors.[sv-projector gallery_id="15255"]
